Hello, Manhattan! | Travel Update

My last New York travel blog post was erased with my entire blog itself.. sad, I know, but I went back! Over a year ago, I went to NYC for the first time ever for a weekend. This time, I got to spend a full eleven days in the city that never sleeps. *still swooning* Not only did I get to spend eleven days in New York City, but I got to spend eleven full days in New York City with my boyfriend. Young Abby’s heart is racing right now, although, she would have never thought such a life to be possible. Sounds more like a fairytale than real life to me and young Abby.

There is this feeling I get when my plane touches ground in New York. It is the same feeling I got when I pulled into a New York train station so many months ago. I don’t have a crush. My heart doesn’t race. I don’t feel giddy. I’m in love. My heart rests. I feel comfortable. It’s the perfect fit. That sustainable, forever type of love.

I spent a lot of time simply exploring during those two weeks. I shopped. I walked. I drank coffee. I walked through Central Park in a blizzard (do not recommend). I took in the energy. I rested. I kept moving.

My favorite part of NYC is always just being. I love to be in the city. I love to watch people. I love sitting in coffee shops. I love the subway. I love the people. I love the traffic. I will say that the best memory I have from my trip was made possible by my wonderful boyfriend. He set aside a day. I was told to get photo ready and get on the subway. With no clue where we were going, I was easy to convince. We had a beautiful lunch in this place overlooking Central Park called Robert. After lunch, we made our way to the park where I was met with a beautiful horse drawn carriage, a rose and an hour to be driven around Central Park with my boyfriend. It was cold, so we grabbed some blankets and let Molly (the horse) be on her way. I can’t say there was a day on that vacation that I was more happy than for that one hour. I was a princess again (Michael knows I love carriage rides, so this wasn’t our first one), and I had my person right next to me.

About halfway though the trip, Michael and I both got sick. I stayed sick through the rest of the trip, but I was determined to not let myself miss out on more than one day of my favorite city. This proved to be a bad decision for my health, but worth it if you ask me.

I know what some of you might be thinking. Abby, if you love it so much, why don’t you move there? And for those of you thinking that.. one day, be patient! It’s true, that response is more a reminder for myself than an answer to your question. I want to. I really do, but I’m not sure it’s time. I have a lot, and I mean A LOT of things to get together in my life before moving so far away. But wouldn’t it be the most beautiful sight? Abby, a writer in Manhattan.

Music to my ears.

This update came a bit late. I apologize for that, but life gets away from us sometimes. In fact, that was my exact reason for going on the trip in the first place. Life had gotten away from me. That feeling I was talking about had faded, and I desperately needed to recall that feeling. I made plans for my trip, and I had expectations that weren’t met. Although I didn’t write or film or create anything at all on my trip, I came back ready, inspired and motivated. My eyes were opened to some issues I needed to work through and some personal ideals that have been holding me back far too long.

Here’s to NYC. Here’s to inspiration. Here’s to new beginnings and fresh starts.
